Description of game <(2)
Intended Audience;
Purpose:
The purpose of making this game was to have fun and produce a game we can put on our portfolio. Puppet Palooza
Gameplay;
The game uses one keyboard and a mouse. The game can be played with a minimum of two players and a maximum of four. The game is played through a series of mini games that have one player control and affect the stage while the other players try to survive and collect coins on a 2D map.
Game Loop:
The game follows a series of minigames. Each minigame has the keyboard players move around to collect coins and survive. The mouse player’s goal is to stop the keyboard players from collecting coins by removing them from the current minigame. A minigame lasts until all keyboard players have been removed or the preset timer runs out of time. After a minigame is over, total points earned by each player is shown along with how many points they earned in the most recent minigame. Players press space to continue to the next minigame. Keyboard players do not work together and are competing with each other as well as with the mouse player. At the end, the one player with the most points wins the game.
Points are calculated based on how many coins are collected for a keyboard player. Each coin is worth one point. The mouse player gains points by removing keyboard players. Each keyboard player removed earns the mouse player 3 points plus a fraction of the points of the keyboard player they just removed determined by the amount of players in the game.
There are a total of four minigames created for this game, these minigames are being discussed in no particular order.
Minigames
Rolling Rumble is a mini game that takes place on a concave shape. On both sides of the screen the shape curves upward and does not allow players to leave the screen, the sides curve downwards towards the middle of the screen. For the keyboard players, there is a ball that is controlled by the mouse player that they must avoid. While avoiding the ball, floating coins appear in preplaced locations around the screen, players must collect as many coins and avoid getting hit by the ball. For the mouse player, the player can use their left click to change the direction the ball is going. The height of the ball can affect the speed the ball moves when changing direction.
Conveyor Clash has the keyboard players be placed on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt constantly pushes the players into the left of the screen. At the end of the conveyor belt is a hole that removes any players that fall into it. Keyboard players must survive on the converter belt with the constant boxes being created by the mouse player and collect the coins that are part of the boxes. The mouse player's goal is to push the keyboard players of the converter belt by creating boxes. To create a box, the mouse player holds down on the left click and moves the mouse around, when the mouse player lets go of the left click, a box is created in the dimensions of original position and the new one. Boxes created have a height and size limit and creating a box also creates coins that keyboard players can collect.
Thwomping Trouble takes place with straight flat ground for the keyboard players to move on, and rocks above the ground. The mouse player tries to remove the keyboard players by making rocks fall down. Rocks can fall down by having the mouse player click on them. When a rock is clicked on, it will play a short rumble animation, then fall down. After a few moments the rocks will slowly return to their original position to be clicked on again. Keyboard players move around the screen to collect preplaced coins and avoid falling rocks. Any time the keyboard player touches a rock, they will be removed.
Comedy Standup takes place on a flat piece of land the keyboard players can move on and a platform in the middle of the screen and above the floor that keyboard players can also move to. The mouse player tries to remove the keyboard player by throwing tomatoes at the screen with their left click. Tomatoes are thrown where the mouse cursor is. Tomatoes take a small amount of time to appear on the screen and have a cooldown between tomatoes. Keyboard players attempt to collect coins and survive the mouse player by moving and jumping around the screen.
